Epson inkjets and resolution

I've been looking at the possibility of incorporating one of Epson's inkjet
printers into my new Macintosh purchase soon. Epson offers two models, the
Stylus Pro 900 and 960, that print not only paper media but also on
printable-type CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. This means you don't have to mess with
adhesive labels or Sharpie markers; you can make quasi-professional looking
discs to present to businesses and organizations.

While visiting the Apple Store in Palo Alto last week, I noticed they had a
Stylus Pro 900 on display. It seems that Epson and Apple offer a $50 off
mail-in rebate if you buy a new Macintosh with a new Epson printer. The
Stylus Pro 900 sells retail for $200, which would make it $150. The Stylus
Pro 960 retails for $350, which would make it $300.

The difference between these printers is that the cheaper Stylus Pro 900
prints at 5,760x720 dots per inch, while the more expensive 960 prints at
2,880x1,440dpi. I did not get to see the 960 at the Apple Store, but the
print samples of the 900 seemed very impressive. The 900's dpi numbers seem
odd. Is this something I should be concerned with?
