- epson r200 self cleaning
- Posted by John on April 28th, 2008
Is there a way to prevent your Epson R200 inkjet from self cleaning
the ink heads when its switched on and also after every print job has
completed? It's really annoying because it just unnecessarily uses up
ink when you don't need the heads cleaning. I'm using jet tecs so
switch off to get the extra boost of ink. The only trouble is, if you
have a few cartridges all running out within a few mins of each other
you're constantly switching on and off to get the extra boost of ink
from the jet tecs but by the time you have switched on and off for the
second, third of fourth cart that needed the boost, the first one has
almost run out completely after its boost due to the stupid cleaning
cycles.

If you do not use Epson ink be thankful that it does a self clean. If should even do more when you use crap ink.
So you think are a Ink expert..? jet tecs it NOT CRAP Ink made in the UK and has the queens award for industry, does Epson have that..?
That garbage is not designed for an Epson printer. I asked Epson and that is what they said. I believe them.

Sadly, the printer has these "features" written into the firmware via
some EEPROMs and timers as well, making it difficult to alter the
cleaning pattern. Some people find if they do not shut their printer
off, it lessen the number of cleaning cycles, but it also wastes
electricity and wears some components.

I'm confused. You are turning it on and off to 'get the extra boost of
ink' -- how do you think that 'extra boost' is being done other than by
forcing the cleaning cycle you say you want to avoid? If you want to
avoid it, just leave it turned on. I keep mine on all the time, and I
don't think I have ever heard it doing a cleaning cycle on it's own. And
yes, if you are near end of life for several carts at the same time, it's
probably better to replace them all at once.

If he used the recommended ink he would not need a boost. He should not complain about wasting some low grade crap ink anyway.

You have to switch the printer off and wait 30 seconds before
switching back on because it wont recognise the ink as being there
until the memory is cleared.
The only trouble with this is that it will then go into a cleaning
cycle as soon as you switch back on, which uses up ink and what you
wanted to avoid to get the extra boosts of ink from the different Jet
Tecs.
Unfortunately you have to cancel your print job and switch off to
clear the memory so the Epson software recognises the ink still in
there shows this on the display and allows you to print more stuff
from the Jet Tecs.
They are not near the end of their life though they still have 25% of
it left. You just don't get this extra 25% from the Epson carts
because of the chip, it wont let you use all the ink.

You do not use Epson quality ink. You use cheap crap. It is OK if you want to use crap and pay less money but at least admit what you use; non recommended lower quality cheaper ink.

They are special OK. When the printhead goes they become very special
and allow almost the full quantity of ink in the cartridges to be used up.
This ink has been tested and known to fade

Not a big deal when you use cheap crap ink but a printhead repair is too expensive.

Nobody that uses quality Epson ink has to do that. Now, myself I prefer Canon printers over Epson. They do produce better photo prints when using appropriate ink in each case.

Milk it to the last drop. I am waiting for your questions on how to get an aftermarket printhead.
