Epson RX500

I'm sorta' new at this so please bear with me. I bought a,
"refurbished", RX500, from Epson. My i year warranty expired 2 days
ago. I now get a "red" exclamation point and a message on the screen ,
"Error", Printer error, See your documention and call service if
necassary...
The printer will not work no matter what I do. I called Epson service
and told them I just wanted to know how to fix this and they told me
they could not answer unless I paid a service fee. HELP....Thanks in
advance for any help....
