Editor's Notes:

Posting Etiquette for comp.periphs.printers

Contrary to popular belief, the comp.periphs.printers
newsgroup is not moderated, and all etiquette regarding
posting is user imposed. For your best chance to get help
for a printer related problem try the following:

Use short, concise subjects naming printer and what
the apparent problem seems to be. (ie. HP LaserJet
2100 ghost images)

When detailing your problem in the "meat" of the post
please include:
A. printer model
B. communication protocol (ie. USB,
Parallel, IR, Network),
C. type of consumable being used (ie.
OEM, remanufactured, or compatible),
D. Additional accessories attached to the printer which
are not out of the box standard (ie. extra paper trays,
JetDirect Networking, etc...)

You should also include the following if the printer is
directly attached to a computer:

E. The platform of the computer. Include basic details
such as the processor type and speed, quantity of
memory installed.
F. The type and version of the operating system.
G. Whether any other equipment is installed
on the same port as the printer (ie. Zip drives
or scanners on LPT or cameras, scanners, or
other printers on USB)

H. Describe in further detail what is happening.
I. Leave a valid e-mail address if you want private
correspondance. For those with spam concerns
you can use a hotmail or other FREE e-mail account
to use on the comp.periphs.printers newsgroup. Don't
ask or expect anyone to privately reply if you use
so called anti-spam words in your e-mail or use
dummy e-mail addresses in the reply-to.

When replying to a posted message on comp.periphs.printers

A. Include essential information from the original post
at the top of your reply, this will make the thread
easier to follow by others.
B. Think about your reply. The purpose of this newsgroup
is to help others. Flaming, spam, and other non-essential
posts are neither desired nor appreciated. Engaging
in flaming or spam will only result in users filtering
you out in the future.

If you wish to have a more permanent entry of your question
or response in the FAQ please post your question to cppFAQ.com.

Tips on posting at cppFAQ.com

DO - use a descriptive title which addresses the nature
of your question detail. In fact it is often a good idea to
make the title a really condensed summation of your question.
(For Example: Why do I keeping getting Error 21 -Print Overrun? )

Obviously the above title does not cover all bases, thats what the
detailed question area does, but the above title does give the
reader an idea of your problem and they may just be willing to
take a further look and EVEN ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.

DO - Include OS versions and platforms, as well as any software
which may experience problems when ask a troubleshooting question.
Some printer problems are software, platform, or OS specific.

DON'T - Include printer models in the short title, all posts are already
placed under your printer model in the Knowledge Base, when you
submit them.

DON'T - leave the name and e-mail address area blank.
I don't like having to fill in the blanks myself.
Put Hostmaster as the Name and hostmaster@cppfaq.com as the
e-mail address if you don't want to put your own in there. I really don't
mind...but if i need clarification of your post and have no way to
reach you it will just get deleted

DON'T - Post a question to another machine model if your machine
is not listed in the Knowledge Base. There are a lot of machines and
I'm working as fast as I can
Speed up the process...
If your machine is not listed submit it for consideration...99.999% of
the time it will be added within 24 hours, and i usually try to provide
some short notes about the machine if I can do so. Check again
after 24 hours...then post you question.

DON'T - E-mail me your questions, I am not going to answer your
question any faster that way, I check posts eveyday during the
week to approve them for public display, and if I can I will usually
post any responses to questions that I can answer at the same time.

DO - Check back regularly, I am trying approve all posts as quickly
as possible, whenever I have a free moment.

Thanks

NOW ON WITH THE FAQ!
---------------------------------------------------------
1. What is cppFAQ.com? < http://www.cppfaq.com >

cppFAQ.com is a official comp.periphs.printers website that hosts
user posted questions and answers (FAQ) retrieved from the
comp.periphs.printers usenet newsgroup by Worldwide Imaging
Supplies, LLC, as well as ratings, tips, and bug reports regarding
various brands and models printers, copiers, and fax machines,
and printer related software, posted directly to the website by
visitors.

The MACHINE KNOWLEDGE BASE hosts a listing of old and
current brands and models of machines such as copiers, laser printers,
inkjet printers (black and color), color laser printers, fax machines,
as well as multi-function machines. We also accept posts
related to Digital Cameras and printing related software.
Information is acquired either from posts on the
comp.periphs.printers usenet newsgroup, or from posts
made directly at cppFAQ.com through the interactive Knowledge Base.

2. Can anyone access cppFAQ.com?

Access to cppFAQ.com is open to anyone, for browsing or posting.
All posts are moderated and subject to approval by cppFAQ.com hosts.

3. I don't see my machine or software in the Knowledge Base. How Do I add
it so information can be posted about my machine?

Due to the large numbers of printers, copiers, fax machines, as well as
printer related software, you may not find your specific model or
software package in the Knowledge Base. Don't worry, a convenient
add-in form is available to request that a machine or software be added
to the Knoweledge Base.

4. What are the terms of use for cppFAQ.com

Terms of Use may be found at:
http://www.cppfaq.com/termsofuse.htm

5. What happened to the Old FAQ Knowledge Base?

Many of the old questions and responses posted in the previous version
of the cppFAQ.com Knowledge Base will be found in the new version
under the appropriate brand and model machine, or software version,
and we are still currently updating the old posts to the new Knowledge
Base format.

However, in order to make the FAQ more user friendly the old category
system has been eliminated and certain posts which where tied to
categories only and not a specific brand and model or machine or
software version were not included in the new Knowledge Base.

6. Why are there not many models listed for certain types and brands of
machines?

We added in many of the older laser printers and copiers to the Machine
section of the Knowledge Base, however due to time and budget
constraints we left much of the inkjet printers out. Since any user can
submit any machine to be added to the model listings, we expect to see
the remainder of the list begin to fill in quickly.
Worldwide Imaging Supplies, LLC Support Staff will also continue
to update the Knowledge Base as time permits.
