HP Photosmart 1115 won't print from IE
Posted by Greg on January 16th, 2004

My son has a HP Photomart 1115 running under Win98SE.

The printer works fine in all programs except IE 5.5.

In IE when you print a page it comes out blank except for "Page 1 of 1" at the top right of the page and
"file://c:\windows\TEMP\triDBOBF.htm and the date across the footer.

The five letters after "tri" changes for every print try. I assume this is temp storage file used in the print process.

It doesn't make any difference if you are printing from a online webpage or working offline.

Now the strange part is, if you go into IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/ and turn on "Print background colors and images", it
prints the entire webpage, with background colors and imgaes, just fine.

I have tried uninstalling the the 1115 drivers and reinstalling them with no luck.

My son says that as far as he can remember everything worked fine with the old printer.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, it looks like it's an IE issue, not a printer issue.
The print file that IE generates contains errors. Keep in
mind that a printer always prints _exactly_ what it's told
to print, so that if it fails to print correctly from some
program, the program is not generating the correct
instructions.

It may be time to upgrade to a later IE, which I believe
means upgrading to WinXP. If you find that's the case, I
recommend that you pay extra to get WinXP Pro. (I also
recommend that you get a good book on XP, one that among
other things tells you how to turn of all the unneeded
"services" that XP starts up when it boots.)
