Lexmark I3: "Problem Communicating With the Printer"

Any one else get this warning? Intermittent but frequent major
printing errors are noted when printing text or graphics or test
pages. It's an I3, Windows XP, USB, 450 mhz cpu with 128 meg of
memory, 30G harddrive. I've removed/reinstalled the software and the
hardware numerous times. Changed USB cable, cartridges,
downloaded/installed latest driver. Any ideas?

You are to be commended for attempting XP on this computer. The first
thing to do is add more RAM; 128MB is not enough for XP, 256MB is
marginal, 512MB is the performance "sweet spot". The RAM might be the
source of the printing problems. Consult the Event Viewer logs, there
might be errors or warnings that are pertinent.

I've had this problem with another model, solved by two fixes: connect the
USB directly to the computer, not a hub, and check your ssytem
resources--I get this only rarely, when I've been using a photo editor at
lot and they've run down (I use Win '98).
