- Parallel to USB: HP Bi-Tronics Parallel Interface" ?
- Posted by casteele95thbgheavy@yahoo.com on January 2nd, 2006
Have an HP LaserJet 4L that I now wish to connect to the USB on my
laptop. Is it simply a matter of buying a Parallel-to-USB cable, or is
this all more complicated than that? (The HP book on the printer has a
page on something it calls the Bi-Tronics Paralles Interface ??)
Thanks, folks.
Christopher
ps. Do I need drivers for the new hookup? (Laptop is a 3200 Averatec.)

I have a 4L but can't answer you main questions.
Bi-tronic I think means it talks back and forth
between the printer and the computer. In any case
it is a very early parallel standard. If other
parallel printers will work with a parallel to USB
cable, the 4L should also. Don't know if your
laptop needs a driver or not, but I think I ran my
4L on my current computer which has XP professional
