Roger Willcocks wrote about his experiences telnet'ing to HP LaserJets:
I just want to check on one detail: this output is going to the computer
terminal, right? It's not being printed out on paper. I'm almost certain
that this is what he means, but I wanted to be completely sure.
Well, actually, since he is in a position to talk to the printers, there
is something else. According to Aandi Inton, by using a different port one
can access the Postscript interpreter itself. If Roger Willcocks can figure
out which port he needs to connect to, maybe he can also say whether the
Postscript interpreter will run programs even when the printer cartridges
and other stuff needed to print out are removed. A very simple test would be
to see whether one can tell the printer to add 2+2 and echo the answer
back to the terminal or write it to a file, even when the printer accessories
are removed.
