- Refill Canon CLI-8 Cartridges
- Posted by John Chapman on May 10th, 2008
Cartridge World.
They have some machine to reset the chip to full.
I also have been impressed with the results when I use cartridges from
IJT Direct---
these come with a chip on which reads full.
The next stage will be someone offering an individual chip resetter as
happened when Epson
put chips on their carts.
I think we should nominate young measekite to put all his efforts into
undertaking this task !

You cannot bypass the tank chips, you have to disable the ink monitoring
system in the printer. There are compatible tanks available with no chip on
them, but you need to re-use a chip from a Canon tank to get them to work,
again disabling the monitoring system.
This means you have no ink level monitoring at all.
In the USA, Cartridge World will refill your Canon tanks and re-set the
chips for a cost of about $9 per tank. But you can buy 4-pack Canon tanks at
Amazon for $40, which makes Cartridge World pretty useless unless saving $1
per tank is worth it to you. For 6 or 8 tank printers, the cost for Canon
inks is higher on the photo color tanks since they are not available in
combo-packs like the basic 4-color tanks are.
Personally, I feel that buying the chipless compatible tanks is easier than
re-filling, since re-filling tends to make a mess and take too much time,
and I'm lazy. Either way you have no level monitoring.

If you buy from IJT Direct you will pay £3 per tank with chip reset.
Both of these suppliers enable you to retain the ink level monitoring.
Refilling yourself may well be cheaper, if messier in my experience, and
you will
still have the problem of resetting the chip if you want to retain the
useful ink monitoring
function of the printer.

Hi again I certainly appreciate all the information on where to get the ink for the CLI-8 cartridges. However, what do I do about bypassing the chip? Thanks again for any additional info. Jim

Compatible is a meaningless marketing term that has no meaning or use.

What a rip off. I can get the original OEM Canon ink for $10.00 a tank in color and $9.00 for the black. Now that is BCI6. Nobody has CL* except Canon. Those can be had for $2.00 more. For a lousy couple of bucks you do not have to take a chance on
lower quality
greater risk of fading
possibly loosing your warranty
and have an increased risk of clogging.
So this as well as Canon, Epson and HP is overpriced but the OEM makes nice photos.
But you can buy 4-pack Canon tanks at Amazon for $40, which makes Cartridge World pretty useless unless saving $1 per tank is worth it to you.
Is there an echo in this ng.
For 6 or 8 tank printers, the cost for Canon inks is higher on the photo color tanks since they are not available in combo-packs like the basic 4-color tanks are. Personally, I feel that buying the
recommended ink is the best way to go.
