disappointed, the "repair manual" is a joke unless you just need to
know how to remove assemblies. As I recall there are no schematics or
circuit-level troubleshooting included.

This group would be ok. I need to change the waste ink pads.

Thanks

Sally,
Here is the procedure to reset your "waste ink counter" on the Epson.
Maybe this is all you need to do for the moment if you're getting an
error message (extracted from the 1270 manual but should be
identical):

"To enter the Special Setting Mode, press Load/Eject button and
Cleaning button while turning on the printer. The Paper Out LED
starts blinking. While it is blinking (for 3 seconds), press the
specified button to activate the desirable setting mode.

NOTE: Special setting modes are not intended for users.

Special Setting Modes:

Load/Eject Switch - Resets EEPROM and timer IC.

Cleaning (Push for 10 sec) - Resets the ink overflow counter in
EEPROM."

So in other words just press the Load/Eject and Cleaning buttons while
you turn on the power, then release both buttons while the Paper Out
LED is flashing. Press and hold the cleaning button for at least 10
seconds.

Now, as to actually replacing the pad, these instructions (again, from
the 1270 manual) are in a zipped 270K file, and can't be posted to the
group here. However if you have an e-mail, I'd be happy to send it to
you.
