Reset waste ink counter Epson 890
Posted by Geoff Jackson on October 22nd, 2003

Hello

Anyone know how to reset the waste ink counter on an Epson 890? I've
searched with Google but can't find how to do it without going to a repair
centre. It seems to be a trade secret.

In France (but you can also buy that in US or UK) you can find a programmer
for Eprom of your cartridge !

In article <rFxlb.989$vr5.920@newsfep4-winn.server.ntli.net>, Geoff

domain. In fact, they would rather the information that any of their
printers contained this time bomb didn't get into the public domain.

Download and run the *!!*FREE*!!* Russian Reset Program at
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Resets the internal counters, the waste ink protection counter and the
ink usage counter independently on the colour and black ink cartridges -
all without opening the printer. Works with many Epson printers,
including your 890 and overcomes the illegal after warranty printer
lockup that the waste ink count is intended to be.

Usual disclaimers, not an employee of Epson or SSC etc. apply.

This is a different couunter, which counts how much ink has been
deposited into the waste in absorber, and in the case of my Canaons
anyway, is presumeably stored on an EEPROM in the pronter itself, and
is reset by service software, or a button reset sequence.

I've found out how to do the re set, with a bit more research, it's a simple
method. For anyone's future needs this is how to do it:
Turn off printer, disconnect from computer.
Hold down paper feed & cleaning buttons, switch on with on/off button.
When paper feed light comes on, let go of both buttons then hold the
cleaning button for about 10 seconds.
That's it.
Switch off printer and do a test print by holding down paper feed button
whilst switching on printer.

This should work on an 870 and 890. I also came across a method for
resetting a 740 which is similar but you hold down the paper feed button
instead of the cleaning button.

Geoff.
