I suggest a bit more quoting from the previous poster may be helpful in

In a public listing it is not easy to know which thread is being
referred to just by the title, and moreso, who you were addressing your
comment to, so I was suggesting that by quoting the message you were
referring to, everyone would have been better informed as to what
message you were referring to. For instance, I wasn't sure if you were
referring to me, since in this thread I mentioned that I was using some
scanners that showed good depth of focus.
