I'm running an HP Pavilion with a 1.6ghz P4 and 512 MB RAM under WinXP.
I recently started having shutdown problems after I installed a new HP
LaserJet 1012 printer. I get an error window titled "TRd ww". I found
that if I placed my cursor on the headline of the error message window,
the full path to the errant program would show. The program that was
causing the problem is:
C:/Program Files/HewlettPackard/Toolbox2.0/javasoft/jre/1.3.1/javaw.exe
This file is about 2 years old.
This file was installed by the printer driver installation CD.
I think the problem might be a result of having a MORE RECENT version of
Java elsewhere on my machine. In
C:/Program Files /Java/j2re1.4.1_03
I have javaw.exe, but it is the 1.4.1 version.
I don't know for sure how I can get the HP software to use the more
recent Java runtime engine. can I just delete everything under
...Toolbox2.0 (shown above)
or is it more difficult than that?
Here's a funny - HP doesn't support the LJ1012 printer (yet) and their
email address for registration - required for support - bounces mail.
How very amusing!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
PS -
Y'know I just HAVE TO mention why I needed to buy a new printer. You
see, a couple of years ago, I bought a BROTHER HL-1240. It was a delight
at first, but after about 3 months the prints had an even gray
background. I didn't know better - I bought a new toner cartridge and
replaced it. No good. Problem continued.
I bought a new drum and a new cartridge. Put them in together. Like
new... then, 3 months later, gray prints again. I started looking around
online for some insight. I learned that this is a fairly well known
characteristic of BROTHER printers that use either the TN-430 or TN-460
(high yield) toner cartridge and the DR-400 drum. BROTHER makes more
than 20 products that use these parts. They say the toner gets
"contaminated." Once it does, if the smallest nanoparticle of
"contaminated" toner gets mixed in with a new cartridge, it
"contaminates" the whole mess. So use your cartridge/drum for 3 months,
and then spend about $190 to replace them both, even if you've only made
800 prints in 3 months. Or spend a couple of bucks more and send the
BROTHER printer to the dump where it belongs and get a new printer.
