Uninstall Old & Install New Printer?
Posted by Lou Leciejewski on January 4th, 2008

I presently have a HP-7310 All-In-One Printer that bit the dust and I am
getting a new Canon PIXMA MP830 in its place. What is the proper procedure
to use when I need to uninstall the old HP 7310 and then install the new
Canon? I am assuming that I first need to disconnect the old printer (HP)
and then do a "remove" on any software related to the HP? Then when the new
Canon arrives all I need to do is install it per Canon's instruction? I
just don't want to install a new printer with anything left from the HP on
my PC as that may cause some strange interaction. I would like to do this
in a very clean procedure to avoid any conflict between the software of the
2 printers. Any procedure help would be appreciated. I have a Gateway PC
that runs Windows XP.

Thanks in advance

Lou

Are you talking about removing just the drivers, or all the attendant
software that came with the printer < both would be better >?

I've got drivers for a Canon IP6000D < USB >, a HP 932 < USB >, a
Lexmark E310 < parallel port >, and a Konica Minolta 2550 < Ethernet >
on the wife's pc and they have no problem living with each other.

OTOH, removing the driver and software via the Add or Remove Programs
applet under the control panel wouldn't hurt.

Turn off and disconect the old printer. Remove the HP software first,
then the drivers. When the new printer arrives follow the
manufacturers instructions. Think about going to Canon's website and
down loading the latest drivers if you have any problems.

Easy peasy.

You should not need to worry yourself about conflicts in the software.
I have 17 printers installed on my system and never experience
problems. Only two or three are being used at any one time.

Thanks to all who responded. I did fully clean my PC from all the HP
related printer software and then I did a defragmentation of the disk, a
reboot and then I loaded the new software package that came with my new
Canon PIXMA MP830 Printer. All loaded fine with no error messages and so
far the printer prints are just great!! I think I like this Canon better
than my HP 7310 that had the manufacturing defect with the cartridge X-
Bias Spring. CompUSA just sent me the new PIXMA MP830 Canon All In One
Printer.

Lou
