Buffer issues with Console Port - Catalyst 2950
Posted by Mikem on November 23rd, 2004

I have been using Catalyst 3500xl switches and have developed scripts
to copy configuration files onto spare switches in the event of a
failed switch. I just got in 2950-24 and 2950-48 swithes. I connect
to the console port and do a simple Transfer/send text file to copy a
configuration file onto the switches. The 24 port switch works just
fine, but when copying to the 48 port switch the configuration
transfer stops. It stops in various places in the config file and I
have used several different ones (so I know it is not corrupt). If I
connect to a port and use telnet to connect and copy it works fine. I
am told this is a buffer overflow issue, but why is it only on the 48
port and not 24? Also, how can I slow it down or work around this
issue?

Thanks

Insert a delay after each linie transfered.

Best regards

More lines to put into the buffer?

Use a terminal program that introduces delays if you must cut-n-paste
via the console port. Tera Term does this.
