- Difference between "Router connected to cable modem" in home and "Router with OSPF/RIP/PIMSM"

What is the main difference between "Router with 40port Switch
connected (Linksys) to Cable modem in the Home" and "Router contains
OSPF, RIP and PIM-SM Protocols installed and 10-port switch ports as
well as 1GB Uplink port". The second one will be used where?. What is
the main diiference between functionality wise?. I need more detail
info. Thanks in advance.
