- Posted by aaabbb16@hotmail.com on August 6th, 2007
I have a solid knowlege about STP and some basic concept
on rstp and mstp. I know rstp compatible with stp, how about mstp
with stp and rstp. Do many people widely use mstp? Anyone can give
brief comparison among them or
give any article;books and URL.
TIA,
/st

I can tell you that Cisco is recommending Rapid PVST+ more than the others.

The use of MST really depends on the infrastructure you want to
implement it on. If it has a lot of VLANs and as a result of that your
network equipment is eating up resources MST is probably the best way to
go. Else go for RSTP instead, it performs a lot faster than standard
STP and doesnt need the additional configuration of STP enhancements
like BackboneFast and UplinkFast.
If youre looking for a solid understanding of the different variants of
STP have a look at any current BCMSN study book.
