About Nikon Coolscan IV
Posted by Jim on December 5th, 2003

Am awaiting delivery of a Nikon Coolscan IV (LS 40) and will be using it
with VueScan on a ton of slides. As a newbie to the scanning world, I have
a question:

My computer is a G4 Quicksilver/733/40G HD (without DVD); OS 9.2.2 and OS
10.2.8. I also have an external Fantom 80G Firewire HD.

Since the scanner only works with OS 9 and USB, I plan to process my slides
and store them in folders on the external HD. Can I then use OS 10.2.8's
IPHOTO 2 for cataloging and transferring to either CDs or DVDs?

Haven't decided yet whether to go internal or external on a DVD burner, but
that'll have to wait for another series of questions.

Thanx,
Jim from Hilton Head.

I suspect you mean that Nikon's own software works only with OS 9.
VueScan's OS X version does work with the LS-40. I haven't tried doing
any serious scanning with my LS-40 since I got my new Mac recently
(1.25GHz G4), but I did try a few test scans with the OS X version of
VueScan, and it seemed to work OK (and a lot faster than on my old 266 MHz
G3! :-)
