Think I have a major problem here.
Purchased above film/slide scanner from MacMall. Have bought lots of stuff
from them in the past, never wondered about their return policy until today.
But back to my problem. Hooked up scanner (via USB) to my Mac G4
Quicksilver. Loaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and the SmartScan s/w
(principally CyberView Agent).
Turned on 2700. Placed 35mm slide in viewer. Followed instruction manual
precisely by launching Elements 2.0 and then File/Import/CyberView. The
next step, according to the manual, is hitting the SCAN link.
This brings up a Not Enough Memory window. I tried a variety of increases
to the apps memory of both Elements and CyberView. Nothing worked.
Four hours worth of long-distanced-charged calls( over two days) to
SmartDisk's tech support results in a lot of head-scratching (on their part)
and no solutions, other than they'll have to kick it 'upstairs' to their
engineers. Still no response.
MacMall will NOT refund my money, but they will replace the 2700 with
another one, IF SmartDisk says my unit is defective. I don't want another
one, since SmartDisk reps don't seem to know how to fix the one I have.
BTW, it's the ONLY film/slide scanner MacMall sells. No luck on asking for
a different brand in the same ($200+) price range.
Anybody out there with any experience on slide/film scanners? And yeah, I
reinstalled both s/w's from the CDs. Didn't change anything.
A frustrated Jim from Hilton Head.
