Assigning custom ICC scaner profile in Nikon Scan *LS-4000ED*
Posted by juppie on July 22nd, 2006

Hello,

I've created a custom ICC profile for my Nikon LS-4000ED from Velvia
IT8.7 target. What I want now is to assign it in Nikon Scan 4.02 as a
scaner profile. I've checked Nikon Color management to ON, but I cannot
find any option to assign my profile?

I've found some profile in Windows "System32\Color\Profile" named
"NKLS4000LS40.icm". Is this the one Nikon Scan uses by default?

Is this possible to force Nikon Scan to apply my custom profile, not the
generic profile?

I may try to override the above profile with mine, but I'd rather do it
"right" way, cause I have several profiles for different films and want
to be able to switch them according to the transparency I'm scanning.

Thanks in advance for any tips,
Bernard

Hi Bernard,

NS4 CMS is a close proprietary system that you can not add your custom
profile in.
To use customized profile, people generally turn all adjustments off in
NS4 (CMS, auto exposure, auto contrast etc. but you may keep ICE on,
that doesn't matter), then get a RAW scan, assign customized profile in
PS directly.

Hope it helps.

Hello,

:/ Cool... Couldn't they just use what is generally accepted CM...

That came to my mind but I hoped I would not be forced to do it. Seems
like it is the only way though.

Yes, thank you very much,

Best regards,
Bernard
