- Colour targets for 35 mm
- Posted by jtscott on August 6th, 2003
I recently contacted Fuji about getting a colour slide 35mm target to
calibrate my film scanner (LS 4000). However, they are very expensive (160
UKP + VAT).
Would anyone be willing to lend me a 35 mm colour target for any type of
film stock, but particularly Fuji and Kodak?
Please? Pretty Please?
Thanks,
Jeremy

Have a look at Wolf Faust's versions at http://www.targets.coloraid.de/.
The 35mm target would cost you about £20 including postage. They are very
accurate, but you can get the individually calibrated for about £15 extra.
BTW, try using lcms to make the profile - the profiles from VueScan don't
appear to be very accurate.

Maybe buy one from here for a lot less than Fuji was asking, about 35 euros ...

There are a number of reviews usualy only covering a limited number of

Pretty much shows what I have always expected from the measurements
done here. The combination of coloraid targets and lcms is offering
by far the best color accuracy and reliability. Of course this is not
what all the companies marketing expensive things tell ;-)
It also shows that with this IT 8 based solution there are hardly much
visible color faults left when scanning slides (even more the much
simpler reflective paper). From my experience, if people do have
problems it is most likely the output profile, setup problems or
incompatible and bad documented software (like using the lcms profile
in VueScan) but hardly the lcms scanner profile...

Hmmm, I was thinking of creating a profile using lcms and using it with
VueScan. What are the problems with using the lcms profile in VueScan?
Thanks,

Wolf, I can witness myself the usefulness and quality of your targets.

It would interesting, anyway, if you could post some tips and Howtos
on your site: precisely because it's easy to find inaccurate or
incomplete infos out there.
Color management and profiling can be frustrating without proper
tutorials...

Keep on the good work!

Wolf Faust sells very cheap, but good color targets. I got mine quickly!
