Compact, lightweight, portable USB scanner
Posted by Clive Long,UK on January 5th, 2004

Hi,

I am looking for an A4 scanner that I can transport with a PC
laptop and power off USB - so that if someone produces a drawing in a
meeting I can scan it in and quickly distribute, rather than waiting
hours / days / never for someone to produce a professional version in
Visio

I feel that a scanner that had a paper feed would be the most
compact - but I can't find such a model, and I guess the feed motor
would add weight.

I have found the CanoScan Lide 30 which seems to fit the bill. I
am sure that the iamge resolution of the cheapest scanner will exceed
my requirements - so it is low weight, small dimensions and USB
connectivity that are key.

Thanks

Clive

How about just taking a photo with a digital camera. Problem solved

Brilliant.

Difficult to get much more compact than a digital camera.

I'll buy a cheap one and leave it in the PC case.

Thanks

We use digital cameras in our office all the time for white boards.
It's an SOP for us.

The Pentax and the Visioneer you may be able to find on Ebay for much
less. I have a fealing lots of people buy these thinking it would be
great and end up selling them. I think they really are a specialty
item.
