Epson 3200 and Vuescan - unable to allocate memory
Posted by James Dunn on November 4th, 2003

I am scanning 4x5 transparencies at 3200 dpi.
(Yes I know how big that is - I'm printing
40 x 50 inches at 300 dpi)
I am using Win 2K sp2 with 1900XP+ cpu
with 1 gig ram. I have 20 gig available
on HD. But when I click scan on Vuescan
I get the error unable to alocate 998 megs
of memory." etc.
I have nothing but Vuescan running, and
try from clean boot, and still get this
error. Every now and then it will work.

My paging file is set to twice memory
2048 meg. The thing is Epson scan
works fine, but I'd prefer not to
use it. I did a Google search and
I'm not the only one having this problem,
but no answers.

Vuescan ver 7.6.18

Yep I have had that problem. I'm a Win XP with a P4 1.5 cpu with 768
MB of ram and 114 gig free on my HD.

I'm using 7.6.64 now and the problem has gone away. Try upgrading and
see if that fixes it.

I have found that the Espons software v1.20A is just about as good as
Vuescan and much faster. You can download their new version off the
web site.

PS I purchased my Epson 3200 exclusively to scan 4x5 b&w negatives.
Good luck friend.
