Epson 3200 and VueScan virtual memory
Posted by Derek Lukasik on October 14th, 2003

Hi,

I'm trying to use some of the multipass features of
VueScan with my Epson 3200 in an attempt at producing
better scans. VueScan is reporting memory allocation
errors that say something like "Unable to allocate 956MB
of memory. Try increasing virtual memory allocation".
I'm trying to scan 4x5 inch transparencies at 3200 dpi.
I know, big files. You don't need all that resolution.
Well, it helps if you're printing really big.

Anyway, my system specs:
Athlon 1.2
1 GB memory
120 GB main drive
40 GB secondary drive
Windows XP Pro
3-4 GB virtual memory on primary drive
system choice virtual memory on secondary

Looking at the commit charge from the Task Manager, plenty
of memory is available. It typically says something like
842M/5533M while VueScan is running. And VueScan is the
only significant program running (I'm at version 7.6.64).

Any hints? Am I SOL?

Thanks,

Derek
