Epson 4180 Scanner Software Hangs on Startup
Posted by vbliss on March 28th, 2005

I've had my Epson 4180 scanner since October 2004 and it has worked
flawlessly until two days ago. I attempted a scan after rebooting
the computer and the Epson software hangs on startup, sometimes
showing the splash screen as though it will start and then just
quitting and sometimes giving me an error message "cannot start
escndv.exe". I have removed the software and all device drivers,
cleaned the registry, rebooted the computer, disconnected the
hardware and reinstalled the software. I then reconnected the
hardware and usb cable and started up the software - I got the same
result - it hangs on startup. Any suggestions to resolve the problem
from anyone will be very much appreciated - I'm in the middle of a
large photo project with a deadline and "panicking"
...thanks in advance for any assistance offered!

If all else fails, what about using the system restore?

perhaps its not the software. If you have ruled out viruses then try
removing the hub and installing directly in a computer usb port. Failing
that does the scanner install on a different computer? If its over a year
old and seen constant use then it may just have died.
