ICE and Autoexposure in Silverfast for LS 4000
Posted by Marco Passanisi on July 13th, 2003

Hi, using Silverfast 6.02 with Nikon LS4000 I discovered that setting
Autoexposure OFF, reduces the effectiveness of ICE, as shown in this
example:

http://www.digilander.com/digital/ice.htm

It's a strange behaviour of my scanner or a recognized bug of actual version
of Silverfast 6.02?

So, with dias that need ICE, what about the recommendation "Autoexposure
ALWAYS OFF"?

Best regards

Try manually changing the exposure time with "analog gain" and see what
the effect is. i suspect that since ICE is reading the infrared response
from the film, the amount of time the sensor is allowed to collect light
will affect the ability of ICE the remove defects. You could also try
SRD and see if the effect is similar.
