My HP ScanJet 3300c: Is it dead?
Posted by mark.dixon@att.net on May 12th, 2006

I've had this unit since 2000 or so. Always worked fine. But...

Now, when I open the program, I get one of two results:

1. The program gives me a message that it can't find the scanner.

or

2. The scanner lights up normally and hums -- also normally -- as if
preparing to scan a document. Then it goes black, as if it lost power.

I tried unplugging/replugging it a few times and noticed that the AC
converter was pretty warm.

So, time for a new scanner?

try a new brick if you like the scanner. Or the brick could be
overloaded from a high current demand in the scanner - then replace the
scanner. An amp meter would tell you quickly enough which side of the
brick was pulling too much current.
