Nikon has version 4.0.3 of Nikon Scan posted on their download site.
It is available for :
* SuperCoolscan 9000ED
* SuperCoolscan 8000ED
* SuperCoolscan 5000ED
* Coolscan V ED
* Coolscan IV ED
I guess I am out of luck using my Coolscan 4000ED on Vista then?

People are reporting that they are installing the Nikon scanners back to
the LS-2000 and LS-30 under Vista using the old Nikon software and
"compatibility mode". Also, some people are using VueScan and
Silverfast (non-Nikon scanning software) with success. Ironically, it
does appear that the LS-4000 (Firewire) is more difficult to install
under Vista than the LS-2000 (which is SCSI).
