Sorry if this gets double posted. I posted a few days ago and have not
seen anything show up yet.

I have a Nikon LS-2000 that is broken. I have the results of my

Well I seem to have fixed my scanner. The square nut that was loose
should have been in a slot in the bottom of the scanner assembly. I
had to unbolt the motor to get it back in. I still can't figure out
how this could have came loose even while shipping!

I ran a test scan with VueScan and wow! What a great scanner /
software. The preview was full of dirt and lint etc. The final scan
was pristine even with my half-assed attempt at cleaning the filthy CCD
mirror with Q-tips. There is a how-to

disassembling one of these but I felt I was pushing my luck already.

Well I spoke too soon. It seems the nut won't stay in place. One scan
and the nut come out and you are back to square one. I think I need a
complete tear down to fix it. if I do I will be using epoxy to keep
the nut in place this time. I think I will try it out first on my DOA
unit.

Please keep us posted. I have an LS-2000 that displayed similar symptoms.
Retired it a couple years ago, after finding out that Nikon's standard
repair cost would be more than it was worth. Have been a happy owner of an
LS-5000 ever since, but it would be nice to restore the 2000 and hook it to
my second PC, for less critical work.
