Hello. I'm looking for some scanner software. Doesn't matter if it's
commercial or freeware/shareware. i have some photos that i want to
pick out just one part of the photo to be on the screen. For example,
a swimming pool, with someone i know in it, but other swimmers around
the general vicinity. Is it possible, and easy, for software like
Photoshop or Print Shop Pro, or maybe other scanning software, to
delete the other people in the photo, where i just have the pool and
the person of interest? Furthermore, is it possible to have a white
background, and put someone's picture in it, where i just have the
person and the white background?

You are not looking for "scanner software" you are looking for Photo
Editors.
"scanner software" just acquires the image from film or paper.

It can be done with Photoshop or Print Shop Pro, I would not call it easy.
You do have a large learning curve.

If the part you want to keep can be cropped from the whole picture, that is
fairly easy.

If you want of keep most of the picture and just remove the other people,
that takes some work.
