- Scanning APS : best settings with Konica Minolta Scan Dual IV
- Posted by larsrogerhansen@gmail.com on July 17th, 2006
My plan is to scan about 25 rolls of APS with a Konica Minolta Scan
Dual IV and would like to hear if anyone got some ideas how to get the
best result with this scanner.
I have tried a few test scans, but I'm not impressed with the
quality. They all seem to end up quite grainy and with odd colours.
Anyone with some ideas to share?? Multiscan/DPI/Dust removal settings
etc - or do you have to open every single image in Photoshop afterwards
to correct them?
Was hoping to enjoy them on screen instead of those old paper photos...

I don't use this scanner or APS film, but some aspects of scanning are
universal.
I suggest trying scantips.com to start with.
Multiscan- don't bother
DPI- maximum optical resolution (this may reduce the appearance of
grain, just downsize the file afterwards)
Dust removal- your scanner doesn't have IR cleaning, so try turning
software cleaning off to see if it preserves more detail
You generally do have to correct images in Photoshop, at least to
resize for whatever you're outputting to, and likely for color.
