- shareware OCR programs?
- Posted by Joe on July 8th, 2007
I looked on several download sites for a shareware OCR program but couldn't
find one that didn't have a short fuse. I'm running Vista so I'll need one
that runs on it. I know about the commercial programs but they seem way too
intense and expensive for my needs- if I find a less intense program for a
reasonable price I'll be happy to pay for it.

Please define 'reasonable' :-)
That being said... usually (even the low-end) scanners have some limited
form of ocr-software included.
So... for the price of the software, you get a scanner for free :-)
HP 2400... about 65-70 Euros with I.R.I.S included.
Canon Lide 25... about 50-55 Euros with OmniPage SE included
Of course... check/ask first if the stuff actually works with Vista... seems
to be a problem with not brand-spanking-new products.
