I still have this scanner though I am disgusted with its ADF
performance. It almost always picks up the wrong page (not the first
page in the stack), picks up several pages instead of just one at a
time, or jams.

I was discussing scanning issues with a visitor to my office and he
thought that cleaning the pick up roller or some such manuever could
make a big difference.

1. Anyone thinks this would actually make a material difference?

2. What should be used to clean the roller/thing? The visitor said
probably alcohol or just a damp cloth with soap or water should be
used, but one was probably correct and the other incorrect. He didn't
know which.

3. What about replacing or cleaning the "ADF Pad Assembly?

4. Is the final answer that this scanner is a POS and will never work
well in ADF mode?

His advice about cleaning the roller is a good one. What does the users
manual say about cleaning the ADF unit?

If the ADF unit is old, the rubber may have gotten hard. It is supposed to
be fairly soft.

Hi Rocco,

You probably found the resolution to your scanning problems by now. But
I'll post this just incase ...

That model is a basic friction ADF design. The rollers pull the
documents through the ADF while a rubber pad holds the rest of the
documents back. The seperation pad assembly is an end user replaceable
part (snap-in) and looks like a mud-flap on a pickup truck. If I'm not
mistaken, I think the Visioneer 9450 has the pic-roller inside the ADF
lid while the pad in on the bottom... on the inside of the ADF opposite
of the door /roller.

Usually cleaning off the toner, NCR, paper dust, and other contamiants
will resolve your problems.. but, they'll have to be replaced
eventually as they wear thin.- you'll know because cleaning won't fix
the problem anymore...

The fix 9 out of 10 times for that symptom of pulling too many pages
through simultaneously is either cleaning or replacing the worn parts.

I'd recommend contacting Visioneer support for assistance if you're
still experiencing problems.
