- What scanner software should I use?

Hi. I'm new to scanning and I have just purchased the Epson RX510
Multi-Function Centre which apparently has the best scanning quality of all
MFCs out there (including the ability to do high quality film-negative
scanning). The trouble is that the software that comes with this machine is
about the most un-user-friendly piece of crap this side of USB. As much as
the interfaces look uncluttered and very flashy, the thing just does not
want to cooperate with me when I want to do simple things like changing the
directory in which it saves and other such things.
Anyway, I just wanted to know what software people use these days to make
the process of scanning (and archiving) as easy as possible. I consider
myself very technically minded so it doesn't matter that there are a ton of
options (the more the better), but when you use something like the Epson
library of software it makes for a very unpleasant experience. Please tell
me what software products are tried and true for the community as a whole.

VueScan does not use TWAIN.
You could try VueScan.

I had the same impression of the software that came with my Nikon.
Switched to VueScan. No problems, no complaints....and the price was right.

For everything but the negatives, you can check out Art-Copy.
It has a load of features and is very easy to use.

I too was so unimpressed with the software that came with my new Nikon
Coolscan V ED, I've found all kinds of excuses not to purchase Vuescan.
Can somebody compare the new Photoshop Elements 3 with the latest Vuescan?
A friend who's from the PC world swears by the new and improved slider
system.
I'm on a G4 Quicksilver with OS 10.3.6.

They are both programs, other than that, there is no similarity.
Vuescan is for scanning, not photo editing or manipulating. Elements
is a "budget" version of Photoshop, a photo editing/manipulating
program.
