Giving up on Norton
Within the past year, three computers in the family have been messed up by
installation of Norton products.
Now, I've tried Norton SystemWorks 2006 and things are so bad that I'm going
to have to restore my computer to factory settings and never go near Norton
again. (Glad that Norton gives refunds up to 60 days after purchase!)
I've been hearing about good free anti-virus downloadable software...like
from Cnet. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions about this. My
anti-spyware programs have been effective but I need to make a decision about
anti-virus.
Also, if I decide to download anti-virus freeware, I'd have to log on to
download without any anti-virus protection.
Like...would it be reasonable to do somethinhg like this: set download.com
as my home page, log on to my ISP (att.net) and immediately download the
anti-virus freeware of my choice?
That's where MY logic leads me, but would appreciate suggestions.

Using a computer on the internet without antivirus is a lot less risky than
using one without a firewall as far as immediate threats particularly if you
are not opening email, not visiting questionable websites, or not
downloading using something like kazaa. If you have some sort of firewall in
place do not sweat it and go download and install your new antivirus
program. Then install it and update it's definitions files right away and
you will be in business. --- Steve

First Congratulations you gave up Norton !!!
Now it isn't a good idea to download from Download.com
What I suggest is:
1.Check your computer for ALL kind of malware using an online scanner such as
Panda's free Active Scan
http://www.activescan.com
Then ,immediately goto:
http://www.avast.com
Click on Download-Products-Choose Avast Home free ed
and download it.It is free.Download it and update it.
DO NOT VISIT ANY OTHER SITES ,do not open or read mails ,nothing else until
you install and update an antivirus.
As soon as you update it,you are ready to register it.Again visit their site
and find how to register it ,it is free ,you'll just get a reg licence key.

I was thinking of getting Avast from download.com but, of course, it makes
great sense to get it from avast.com!
