How can I share a folder with just administrators?
Posted by jstevens-remove@esteparkcomputers.com on October 2nd, 2005

I need to share certain documents with administrative personnel only. How can
I set permissions on the folder to allow only admins to see it? I am using XP
Pro w/ service pack 2. Thaks in advance for the help.

John this question is so basic I can only point you to Google:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...oog le+Search

The concepts are the basics of file sharing and security. Possibly someone
near you offers a course on basic networking. There are some fundamental
concepts you need to understand. Asking the question you did shows that you
don't understand them. This is not a put down of you. Everyone has to start
somewhere. It's just that the question is so basic it's hard to answer
without explaining how security works from the ground up. The answer
involves three things: share permissions, NTFS permissions, and security
groups. Read some of the Google links looking for details on those things. A
good start is the first link Google finds.

Thanks Kerry, I found the answer. I just needed to turn off simple sharing
in order to get my permissions tab to show on the folder. System is set up
and ready to go. It is always the little things I forget. I do not do a lot
of security anymore.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. From your question it sounded like you did
not understand how to limit access to a group of users.
