- MDAC problem version 2.8.1 reinstall.
- Posted by Stephen. on December 12th, 2005
I have an XP Pro sp 2 workstation that I can't get a Sybase ASE ODBC driver
to connect to an ASE database. XP Service Pack 2 installs MDAC version 2.8
SP1. I am thinking a file was open or the install didn't go as planned based
on some other articles I have read in other newsgroups. I want to install
2.8 SP1 again however on the MSDN page there is no option for an XP download.
It appears the only way to get this is to install XP SP2 again. Should I:
Install MDAC 2.8 for which there is an install for XP
or
Reinstall Windows XP SP2? If I reinstall XP SP2 are there any gotchas I
should be aware of? Rolling back to a system restore point is not an option.
or
If you have any ideas feel free to put them here.

I wanted to add that I installed the Sybase ASE ODBC driver seperately, and I
have have successfully installed this driver and connected on many other XP
SP2 machines. I have also reinstalled the Sybase ASE ODBC driver to no avail.
