Restricting hardware access
Posted by hcrds on October 29th, 2005

I am helping a friend with his small business computers. He has an employee
who is constantly changing the default printer to the fax machine. I tried
unloading the software for the fax app but of course it reinstalls itself.
She is constantly calling me because she can't get anything to print. Is
there any way to lock her out of the printer loop so she can't change the
default printer yet retain the ability to print to the default printer? The
6" sign I pasted to her monitor didn't seem to help btw<G>.

Try one on pink paper that says, "Better luck at your next job." Sadly, no, there's no way I know of to prevent this. However, the small VB Script represented here:

Could be modified, so that it could be run on your client's systems, at logon, or manually and set the desired printer.
