- Setting Promiscuous Mode on Ethernet Adapters
- Posted by John Kennedy on February 6th, 2006
I would like to find out if it is possible to grant user/group rights to
enable promiscuous mode for the ethernet adapter on a PC. I currently need to
allow specific users/groups the ability to do this in order for a monitoring
software to work properly. I would prefer to be able to explicitly control
who has this ability without arbitrarily giving administrator priviledges to
everyone that needs to run the software. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. (this is with Windows XP SP2). Thanks in advance.

One thing you could try is adding the authorized user to the network
configuration operators group on the computer. --- Steve

Unfortunately that doesn't work. It does allow users to change IP addresses,
but not set the adapter in promiscuous mode.
Thanks,
John
