- System services doesn't show up in Security Template
- Posted by Dave Norris on May 8th, 2006
I have created a Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in template
defining several System services. If I open it from Security templates, I
can see my configuration but If I attempt to configure or analyze using, it I
get nada. The rest of my changes are applied but services remain unchanged.
Clicking on Services in thesnap-in in the console gives me a message, "There
are no items in the view."
How can I apply my defined template.

Make sure that you right click the security template you created and select
"save" before you try to use it as that is often the cause. --- Steve

Understandable, but I don't think that is the problem. If I add-in Security
Templates to the console, I can view the template I created and see that
Services are defined the way I want them. If I have imported my new template
at the same time I have Security Templates, services is defined in Security
Templates but in Security Configuration and Anyalysis, I have nothing.

Dave.
When you open the security template you created with notepad does it show
that services are configured?? You might also try creating another security
template configuring just a couple services to see if that works. Below is
how notepad shows a security template I created that has messenger service
set to disabled. I checked and Security Configuration and Analysis does
recognize it as configured. You might also try naming a new .sdb file to use
to import your security template into when you select "open database" to
start Security Configuration and Analysis . You can try the security
template I posted below to see if it works for you by pasting into notepad
and saving it with an .inf extension.--- Steve
