want to allow two users to get password protected folder
Posted by jfletcher on November 15th, 2005

I have set up password-protected accounts for me on my desktop and my
wife on her laptop. Both computers are connected via a wireless
network. We used to be able to share folders, but now we can't.

How can I set it up so she can access the folders on my account, but a
"guest" logged on to her laptop can't?

I have XP Home.

I believe that XP Home has a limitation that only allows guest access to
computer shares which means it uses only simple file sharing and the only
thing you can do is to control the access that users get to a share such as
if they can only read or also write and delete. XP Pro however allows you to
finely control access to network shares by specifying users/groups and the
level of access, if any, for them. The link below explains more on network
sharing and XP Home. ---- Steve
