- Windows Installer 3.1 will not install!

I have just upgraded from XP home to XP professional as I wanted to use
remote access.
After using the 'quick upgrade' I have 3 serious issues, with IE, security
and windows installer.
I went to the microsoft site to look for updates - the site scanned my
software, and downloaded windows installer 3.1 Every time I try to install
this update it fails, and now I have the update icon sitting in my taskbar.
It also wants to install it every time I turn off my PC.
Any suggestions please?

A log is created when Windows Installer attempts to install.
Go to Start > Run > copy and paste the below into the Open: line
and then click OK or press Enter
%windir%\kb893803v2.log
Post the KB893803v2.log and perhaps someone can see where the
installation if failing.
If *nothing* can be installed via the update sites or Automatic Updates,
suggest you try the 2 Methods laid out here:
