I am assuming it's my lastest update causing the problems I am having. I
can't access the internet to update my spyware and anti-virus programs. Any
suggestions?
thanks so much

Follow up.. I did add the programs to the exceptions in the windows
firewall. That made no difference.

Can you post some more info?
What do the application that can't connect say?
Not even one of them connects?
Did you try pinging (using command line program ping) to check connection?
What kind of connection are you using?
If you have dial-up or dsl, have you established connection?
If you have broadband like cable or lan can you locate the icon in system
tray that belongs to the network card? What does it say?

You tried pinging, what were the results? When you dial, you should get IP
adress (and other settings) dynamically from your ISP. Do you? Using
"ipconfig /all" you can extract settings of your network adapters. That
should tell you if the connectionto your ISP was established. Did you check
if it's not DNS error?
