- Windows XP Firewall Blocking Admin Share
- Posted by JO on April 18th, 2006
With Windows XP SP2 firewall turned on, I cannot access the admin Share
(admin$). With firewall off, access is fine. I need access with firewall
turned on. I tried adding port 445 as an exception but firewall stated entry
already exists.
Thanks for your consideration.

Make sure that in your settings for the firewall you have the checkbox for
file and printer sharing selected, and specify the scope of the exception to
be the local subnet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I verified that file and printer sharing is
selected and that the scope was set to my network. So, I'm still not able to
connect to the admin share.
Thanks for any ideas.
