- Windows XP Pro SP2 Security Center Not Finding AV & Firewall Softw
- Posted by RainSong on December 3rd, 2005
I suspect that this message is the result of a recent virus on my PC. Whilst
the virus is now cleaned from my PC, I suspect that its legacy remains, ? in
the way of a registry change causing the Security Center to state that it
can't find the relevent software. All software is up to date and was
previously recognised by the Security Center. When I try to access Windows
Firewall via the Control Panel, I get this message, "Due to an unidentified
problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings." Both the
Firewall (ZoneAlarm) & AV (eTrust VET) software appear to be working
correctly. Thanks in advance for your help and ideas on correcting this
problem.

"Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall
settings" error, try:
Start>Run regsvr32 hnetcfg.dll [enter]

Thanks Malke. I ran what you suggested and received the message
"DllRegisterServer in hnetcfg.dll succeeded.", but unfortunately with no
positive outcome to my problem.

Remove the machine from the Internet and any lans. Uninstall/reinstall
your antivirus software. Now connect to the Internet and update your av
and do a thorough scan with it in Safe Mode.
It would be wise to go through other malware removal steps, too:
