Anyone know how to change my computer's boot sequence so that my CD-ROM drive
is the first drive my computer looks for when starting up? I need to run a
RAM diagnostic from a CD.

The procedure is different for different motherboards.
Typically early in the boot process a message comes up, something like:
"Press F1 to enter set-up", other common keys are F2, Delete and others.
You need to press quickly while the message is on the screen.
Once in, usually there is a "Boot" tab, from there you can change the boot
sequence.

Check your motherboard/computer manual or contact the manufacturer for
details.

I tried that, but for some reason, my VAIO doesn't give me any indication as
to how i do it. I've tried [tab] and [f1]. no luck.

That may describe your BIO, but it does not describe mine and many others.
Each manufacture determines how the BIOS is entered and navigated fro the
motherboard.
