Can you do a clean install (format HD) with an upgrade copy of xp?
Posted by bodyart27 on November 6th, 2005

Have a Dell desktop that came OEM installed with ME. If I don't care about
the data on the PC, and prefer to format the drive and do a clean install.
Will the upgrade flavor of XP give me the option of a clean / format install
or do I need the full version? I read the box carefully at the store and some
poking around online and can't find a definitive answer (seems like you
should).

I do have the license key that came with the Dell.

Thanks!

Unless you have a previous Windows ME CD,
you'll need a "Full Version" of Windows XP
in order to perform a "clean install".

Cool. Sounds like I just provide the Dell OEM Backup CD for "Reinstallation
of Windows ME" when it asks for a copy of my previous version of windows.

Right?

Thanks!
