I was trying to load an XP Pro evaluation cd onto my Gateway 700 that had XP
Home.
I get a bluscreen when the drivers are loading in the graphical portion.
There is a Stop 0x0000007E and a driver listed: nv4_mini.sys.
The screen reccommends that I go into safe mode and disable the driver but
when I bring up safe mode I get a message stating that setup can't continue
from safe mode. If I click OK or hit the x on the message, the machine will
try to restart the graphical phase of setup and hit the error again.
I tried the recovery console. I went into the system32\drivers folder and
deleted the driver. Once I type exit, the machine tries once again to run
the graphical part of setup. If the CD is in the drive it will then reload
the bad driver.
Is there a way to slipstream a newer copy of the driver that claims it was
tested at WHQL into a new instalation cd?
The driver is for the Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 display adapter.
What is the likelyhood that I may need a new BIOS? That was another
possible fix for the problem in the error message but since I gave a driver
in the stop message I assumed it probably wasn't the problem.
Any ideas?
