- Can't install windows XP
- Posted by Phauxe on January 30th, 2006
I recently suffered from a virus, and my only option was to format my hard
drive.
Just to be safe though, I wiped my hard drive first.
When I went to re-install Windows XP though, it would freeze at the screen
that lets me choose between a full install, a repair install, or just
quitting.
What's even stranger is if I let it sit at this screen for a couple minutes,
my whole system powers down...
I can't find anything on the internet about something like this happening,
and I'm at a loss for what to do.
My specs are:
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
RAM: 512MB Ultra Brand DDR RAM
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 200Gb
If you need to know anything else... I'm waiting for an answer...

How did you wipe your hard drive? Are you booting from the XP CD to setup XP
as a clean install? How are you booting?
If you are doing the above, open the case and remove all but the video,
mouse and keyboard. Reseat your memory chips and all your cable connections,
both to the device and the mother board. Check your power connections to the
MB.
After wiping the hard drive, did you install drivers specific to the mother
board? Did you refer to the MB manual?
BTW, you did not supply your Mother board specs Make, Model, revision #.
Processor specs alone is not much help.
Please be specific, none of us use or recommend crystal ball support. 8-)
