- Deploying XP using RIS - Sata drive not found

Hi,
I have a Windows 2000 SP4 ris server with an XP SP2 flat image which I use
to deploy a number of different images to pcs and laptops within our company.
I'm well versed in the method of adding Network Drivers to an image but I've
hit a problem I've never seen before!
When building the image I was going to upload to the RIS server I had to
press F6 and add the sata drivers from a floppy for the installation to
continue. This i've had to do before when building images and once I've done
that it's been fine. This time though, I uploaded the image, fixed the
network drivers error and now I'm getting the "Setup cannot find any hard
drives installed on your computer etc etc Press F3 to restart" Error when I
try and test the image using F12.
Has anyone ever seen this problem with Remote Installation Services? In the
past when i've had to add a driver to the text portion of the setup by
pressing F6 that's been the end of it and it's been applied to the image
correctly. Not this time!

You may have to go into the target PC BIOS and turn off SATA Native Mode

I was running into similar problems trying to fix a viral Dell. First hal.dll
and boot.ini were infected and no amount of replacing those files (via live
Linux CD) would fix it. XP setu pcould not see the 250 GB SATA HDD. So I got
a new SATA HDD, set it up, and tried booting off an Xp SP2 CD. Setup would
still not see the HDD no matter what I tried. Finally, something clicked when
I saw your BIOS note here and I set the BIOS not to use the default config
for the SATA drive, but instead use the RAID/ATA setting. Now XP setup can
see the drive and I'm on my way. After many days of hurdles, including the
previously unknown original XP (no SP) setup limitation of 137 GB (it's a 500
GB drive) I think I can get it working again. And...I only wasted $130.00 on
an unnecessary new HDD. If only Dell's default BIOS config made sense. And if
only they didn't ship their XP system reinstall on DVD media which you cannot
boot from! Arrrghh!

Actually, it looks like the Combination SATA/PATA mode is the one I needed.
